How this decision framework works

The framework asks five questions in order: your priorities, your budget, your geographic context, what you're leaving, and your use case. Each question maps to one or two picks from our 8-platform short-list. If your answers land on a single pick, the routing is high-confidence. If they split across three picks, the framework shows you the trade-offs honestly.

The eight picks the framework routes to are the same eight that survived our Character.AI alternatives roundup and Replika alternatives roundup, all scored under our AI companion scoring system: Candy.ai, OurDream, Lovescape, DarLink AI, GirlfriendGPT, Joi, Secrets.ai, and Pleasur AI. Each one cleared our 5.5/10 floor, our 7-veto compliance checklist, and won at least one scoring category outright. The full selection filter and the 12-step per-platform workflow live on our scoring page, and the per-pick scoring lives on each individual Review.

The framework is built this way because the AI companion category doesn't have a single best pick. It has best-fit picks per reader. Any page that ranks one platform as universally best across every budget, every region, every back-story, and every use case is a page you shouldn't trust. Our five questions exist to surface the trade-offs that drive an honest pick, not to hide them behind one ranking.

The other reason the framework runs as a written 5-question guide rather than a clickable quiz: clickable quizzes in this space tend to over-promise precision. One reader's answers route to one outcome with a lot of apparent confidence, when the real decision is genuinely ambiguous (the same answers could legitimately point to three picks depending on which thing you care about first). Writing the framework as prose lets us show the ambiguity where it actually exists, the reasoning behind each question, and the edge cases where the usual routing breaks down. Got 60 seconds? The five questions below give you the answer. Got 5 minutes? The individual Reviews give you the per-dimension scoring underneath.

One thing worth flagging up front: every pick on the framework runs under a different corporate entity in a different country (EverAI Limited Malta, Tektopia Ltd Cyprus, FameLink SA Switzerland, Novi Limited Cyprus, NextDay AI Quebec). The compliance posture, the dispute jurisdiction, the accountability path: none of those are interchangeable between platforms. We cite the corporate entity on each individual Review and on the about page. If privacy and compliance are what you care about most, weight that above image polish or memory horizon and route accordingly.

Question 1: What matters most, image polish, persistent memory, or video generation?

The biggest difference across the AI companion category is which feature a platform builds first. Image polish points to Candy.ai or Lovescape. Persistent memory points to OurDream (2-plus week horizon) or DarLink AI Ultimate (30-plus day Living Memory). Video generation points to Joi (near-4K Dream Clips with V4 identity-lock, under $5 a month yearly).

This is the foundational question because every other question hangs off which feature you weight first. The AI companion category is lopsided. No single platform leads on all eight of our scoring categories at once, and the trade-offs are real. Pick the wrong thing at the start and you'll land on a platform that's great at something you never use. That's the single most common reason people cancel a month into a paid subscription.

If image polish is what you care about most, the routing splits two ways. Candy.ai turns out the best image generation we've seen in the AI girlfriend space, which matches the consensus across Reddit's r/AICompanions threads (we haven't audited those threads as a formal sample) [Source: Reddit r/AICompanions image-generation comparison threads (consensus pattern, aggregated user discussion across 2025-2026) · verified 2026-05-13]. You can tune outfits, backgrounds, and poses, with per-image cost scaling at 2-4 tokens. The girlfriend mode, boyfriend mode, and anime mode each ship 100-plus pre-built characters plus that 20-plus attribute custom-character builder. Lovescape is the one that won an independent head-to-head: a LustyLab test scored Lovescape 4.2 against Candy.ai's 4.1 on image quality, and 4.0 against 3.1 on voice. Small gap, but it's real and it's third-party. GirlfriendGPT is a third option if you want the 7,000-plus community character library bundled with image generation, though its per-image polish trails both Candy.ai and Lovescape.

If persistent memory is what you care about most, the routing splits between OurDream (2-plus weeks of continuity, from aggregated user reports we couldn't verify line-by-line, see our OurDream test, plus four-character group chat at $9.99 a month yearly Premium) and DarLink AI Ultimate (30-plus day Living Memory per the same caveat, see our DarLink AI review, at $24.95 a month yearly, the longest documented memory horizon we found and also the highest price ceiling). The choice is about how you play. OurDream's strength is the four-character group chat, which nothing else on our list does and which mirrors the c.ai group-chat surface that keeps tripping the Sensitive Content Filter on borderline content. DarLink AI's strength is scenario-first roleplay with branching paths, closer to interactive fiction than to a standard AI girlfriend chat. Nomi gets cited a lot here, but we left it off the recommended set because its premium pricing ($24.99 a month entry) doesn't clear our top picks in our scoring (full reasoning in our Character.AI alternatives honest exclusions).

If video generation is what you care about most, Joi is the only pick on our list that ships near-4K Dream Clips video with V4 identity-lock under a $5 a month yearly ceiling. Two hard caveats. Joi blocks UK IPs at an unavailable page, and it caps every tier at 115 characters per message, which breaks long-form roleplay. Secrets.ai's EmotionSync video (6-9 second render) is the alternative, but it's paywalled at 600 Moments per video and the quality trails Joi on resolution and identity-lock. So: if video matters first and you're not in the UK, go Joi. If you're in the UK, the video question collapses and you should re-route on image polish or memory instead.

Question 2: What's your monthly budget?

Three budget bands with sharp routing rules. Under $5/mo gives you Candy.ai yearly ($3.99 a month effective) or Joi standard ($4.00 a month yearly), with OurDream's free tier (50 messages a day plus 5 free chats, no signup) as the no-payment default. $5-15/mo opens Lovescape, OurDream Premium, Secrets.ai Premium, and GirlfriendGPT mid-tier. $15-30/mo opens DarLink AI Ultimate and GirlfriendGPT Deluxe.

Pricing in the AI companion space stays low compared to cam platforms. Most subscriptions cap at $25-30 a month yearly even at the top, and the cheapest entries land below $5. The spread is wide because the platforms spend engineering on different features, and the price tracks what's expensive to deliver. Memory horizon and scenario depth at DarLink Ultimate cost more to compute than image generation on Lovescape standard, for instance. This question narrows you to the picks you can afford, before Question 3 narrows on geography. Pricing as of May 2026.

Under $5 a month is the cheapest band. Candy.ai yearly at $3.99 a month effective ($47.88 a year) holds the promo for the entire subscription instead of letting it expire after the first cycle, which is a conversion lever no major AI competitor currently matches. Joi standard at $4.00 a month yearly is functionally tied for cheapest, carrying the two caveats from Question 1: it blocks UK IPs and caps every tier at 115 characters per message. OurDream's free tier is the no-payment default. 50 messages a day plus 5 free chats with no signup is the most generous free path we found, enough to test how the persona behaves, how deep the conversation goes, and how long it remembers you across a full week before you spend a cent. Secrets.ai's free tier (20 responses a day plus 200 free Moments) and GirlfriendGPT's free tier (about 20 messages a day plus the full 7,000-plus character library) are the runners-up.

$5 to $15 a month is the mid band where the feature wins start to stack. Lovescape at $5.99 a month yearly carries the LustyLab independent image and voice benchmark, plus a crawler-friendly robots.txt that allows GPTBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot (a quiet signal it wants to be cited by AI search). OurDream Premium at $9.99 a month yearly opens the full memory horizon and four-character group chat, the cheapest path to multi-week continuity we found. GirlfriendGPT Premium at $12 a month opens the full character library plus a 9.5/10 third-party memory recall benchmark [Source: REQ Quebec: NextDay AI Incorporated #15168813 (Girlfriend GPT operator) · verified 2026-05-13]. Secrets.ai Premium at $13.33 a month yearly opens a 4x memory recall multiplier plus 8,000-15,000 Moments for image and EmotionSync video generation.

$15 to $30 a month is the top band. DarLink AI Ultimate at $24.95 a month yearly is the highest price ceiling we found and opens the 30-plus day Living Memory plus the full scenario-first roleplay surface. If you're running multi-week explicit storylines or reading interactive-fiction-style branching content as your main use, the price earns its keep. GirlfriendGPT Deluxe at $24.50 a month yearly opens an 8K context window and a Memory Priorities feature, built for readers whose main frustration is the conversation forgetting context across long sessions. Above $30 a month the field thins out fast. Nomi sits here but doesn't clear our scoring for the price.

Question 3: Are you in the United Kingdom (or another geo-restricted region)?

Geographic routing is structural, not a preference. UK readers default to Candy.ai (EverAI Limited Malta C107181, named UK Representative under the Online Safety Act, full GDPR coverage). Joi blocks UK IPs entirely. US readers in TX, UT, LA, MS, AR, VA, FL, and NC face state age-verification rules. EU readers under the Digital Services Act default to platforms with clear DSA disclosures.

This question isn't optional. The law in your country decides what you can even reach from your IP address, before any preference question gets a vote. A reader in the United Kingdom who picks Joi for its video generation hits a "not available in your region" page and the whole routing fails. Better to raise the geo question now than after a wasted signup attempt.

United Kingdom readers face the most consequential geo-routing of the bunch. The UK Online Safety Act 2023 puts compliance obligations on platforms serving UK users, including age-verification and a named UK Representative requirement for operators based abroad [Source: UK Online Safety Act 2023 (Wikipedia overview: categorised services, age-assurance, UK Representative regime) · verified 2026-05-13] [Source: UK Online Safety Act 2023: full statute text (legislation.gov.uk) · verified 2026-05-13]. Candy.ai is the cleanest UK pick because EverAI Limited (Malta C107181) ships a named UK Representative under the Act, full GDPR coverage, 12 dedicated policy URLs, and a discreet Everai bank-statement descriptor that experienced users specifically watch for. Joi blocks UK IP addresses outright, regardless of the fact that it pays us the most of any AI app we're approved for. We won't surface a VPN workaround here. The block is enforced platform-side. OurDream, Lovescape, DarLink AI, GirlfriendGPT, Secrets.ai, and Pleasur AI all stay reachable from the UK at the time we tested, though the compliance posture varies a lot across them. The UK-specific detail per platform lives in each Review's Privacy and Compliance section.

United States readers in age-verification states face state rules that the platforms handle inconsistently. Texas (HB 1181, effective September 2023), Utah (SB 287), Louisiana (HB 142), Mississippi (HB 1126), Arkansas (SB 66), Virginia (SB 1515), Florida (HB 3), and North Carolina (HB 8) all require age verification for platforms serving sexually explicit content to in-state users. The response varies platform by platform. Some geo-block these states outright, some run government-ID upload flows, some push the burden onto you with an attestation-only gate that may not actually satisfy state law. We don't keep a per-state per-platform availability table refreshed as often as the rest of our scoring. Check each Review's Privacy and Compliance section, then double-check directly on the platform's pricing or signup page from your home IP before you pay.

EU readers in countries fully covered by the Digital Services Act get transparency protections aimed at Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) and Very Large Online Search Engines (VLOSEs) [Source: EU Digital Services Act (Wikipedia overview: VLOP/VLOSE regime, transparency obligations, user-redress mechanisms) · verified 2026-05-13]. None of the eight picks here are currently designated VLOPs (the threshold is 45 million monthly active EU users), but the broader DSA obligations on transparency reports and user redress still apply. EverAI Malta (Candy.ai), Tektopia Ltd Cyprus (OurDream), Novi Limited Cyprus (Joi), and FameLink SA Switzerland (DarLink AI) all sit in EU or EU-aligned countries with real DSA exposure. The Privacy and Compliance section on each Review notes the per-platform DSA posture where it's disclosed.

Other restricted regions (China's Great Firewall, Russia's 2023 "extremist" designation, the Muslim-majority moderation regimes in Indonesia and Malaysia, some Gulf states) come with access constraints that cut across most of these platforms. Our launch covers US English only and we don't run testing for restricted-region access. If you're in one of these places, verify access directly on the platform's pricing or signup page before paying, and bear in mind that the legal exposure of using a service like this can reach beyond the platform to your own jurisdiction.

Question 4: Are you leaving Replika or Character.AI?

The two biggest exit flows in the AI companion space route differently. Replika exit (after the February 2023 explicit-roleplay rollback that followed an Italian Garante enforcement action) goes to memory-first picks: OurDream and DarLink AI, with Candy.ai as a third option. Character.AI exit (after the December 2024 content filter that followed the Garcia v. Character Technologies lawsuit) goes to content-latitude picks: Candy.ai, Lovescape, and DarLink AI.

Exit traffic in this space is the highest-converting search behavior we see. Someone who lands on a "best [brand] alternatives" query isn't browsing. They're hunting for a cleaner replacement for a product that broke on them. The routing differs by source platform because the breaking change differed.

Replika exit dates to February 2023, when Luka Inc. pulled explicit-roleplay (ERP) for new accounts after an Italian Garante enforcement action. Legacy users got grandfathered in briefly, then the rollback hardened across 2023-2024 [Source: Replika (Wikipedia entry: February 2023 ERP removal, Italian Garante enforcement action and aftermath) · verified 2026-05-13] [Source: Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali: Replika data-protection enforcement action February 2023 · verified 2026-05-13]. What's left is a friendly companion, not an unfiltered one. The reader leaving usually wants that persistent friend-relationship persona with a long memory. Replika's real strength was never image polish or video. It was the conversation engine plus memory that held up over weeks and months. So Replika-exit routing weights memory first: OurDream (2-plus weeks of continuity, per user reports we couldn't verify directly, $9.99 a month yearly Premium plus a 50-messages-a-day free tier to test on), DarLink AI Ultimate (30-plus day Living Memory, same caveat, $24.95 a month yearly), and Candy.ai (a 5-7 day documented horizon, but the strongest compliance posture in the space, $3.99 a month yearly, less friction for cost-conscious migrants). The full Replika exit flow lives on our Replika alternatives roundup.

Character.AI exit traces to a sequence across 2024-2025. The October 2024 Garcia v. Character Technologies wrongful-death lawsuit (filed after 14-year-old Sewell Setzer III died by suicide following extensive c.ai roleplay) was the turning point, and more minor-related lawsuits followed in October 2025 [Source: The New York Times: coverage of Sewell Setzer III suicide and Character.AI lawsuit (October 2024) · verified 2026-05-13]. In December 2024 the platform added a Sensitive Content Filter toggle, but with a hard ceiling. Explicit roleplay stays blocked no matter your verified age, and mid-conversation refusals on borderline content became routine. The reader leaving usually wants the content latitude c.ai's hard ceiling denies: explicit roleplay as a baseline feature, not a moderation edge case. So Character.AI-exit routing weights content latitude plus a persistent paid persona: Candy.ai (the best image generation we tested, persistent persona via the 20-plus attribute builder, EverAI Malta compliance), Lovescape (independent image and voice testing at $5.99 a month yearly), and DarLink AI (scenario-first roleplay with branching paths plus the longest memory horizon on Ultimate). The full Character.AI exit flow lives on our Character.AI alternatives roundup plus the Character.AI vs Candy.ai head-to-head.

Other exit sources route to subsets of the same eight picks with similar logic, but the weights shift per source. Janitor.AI's bring-your-own-model setup hits a complexity ceiling for a lot of readers. CrushOn.AI's corporate transparency gap surfaces the moment you run a privacy review. SpicyChat, Chai, and Nomi all carry a pricing-versus-feature mismatch of their own. Each brand has its own dedicated list with the per-source reasoning: Janitor.AI alternatives, CrushOn.AI alternatives, SpicyChat alternatives, and Chai alternatives.

Question 5: What's your priority, companionship, sexting, or thinking it through?

The use-case question splits three ways. Companionship-first goes to Candy.ai for polish or OurDream for memory depth, depending on which you weight first. Explicit-first goes to our uncensored Character.AI alternatives list, which covers the explicit picks in frank wording. Thinking-it-through goes to our AI girlfriend vs real girlfriend explainer, an educational page rather than a commercial route.

This question exists because the AI companion category covers genuinely different uses, and the right answer depends on which one you actually want. Someone optimizing for companionship will hate a platform built for explicit sexting, because the engagement loop is wired around different reward signals. Someone optimizing for explicit will hate a platform built for companionship, because the content rules feel like a cage. And someone who just wants to think the phenomenon through wants neither, and is better off with educational content than a sales funnel.

Companionship-first is the median use here, and the routing splits between Candy.ai (best for low-friction daily chat with image polish on demand, a persona that remembers your preferences, a $3.99 a month yearly subscription that doesn't surprise you) and OurDream (best for multi-week roleplay arcs where memory matters more than image polish, plus four-character group chat for ensemble companionship). Both ship explicit content as a baseline feature, but the engagement loop is built around the relationship persona rather than around explicit content as the main draw. GirlfriendGPT is a third option if you want companionship with that 7,000-plus community character library, closer to the c.ai library-first feel but without the c.ai moderation ceiling.

Explicit-first is a different use entirely, where content latitude is the whole point and memory, polish, and video are secondary. The routing for it lives on our uncensored Character.AI alternatives list, which covers the explicit picks in frank wording. The picks overlap with the eight here, but the ranking shifts. Image polish at the explicit level climbs, and persistent friend-relationship companionship drops. We split the routing because the path to a sign-up differs. Explicit-first readers usually aren't running multi-week persona arcs. They're running single-session explicit interactions, and the bar for "best" changes accordingly.

Thinking-it-through is a use the AI companion industry rarely talks about openly. Some readers come here not to use an AI companion but to work out what it means that AI companions exist at all: the parasocial pull, the real-versus-synthetic relationship question, the regulatory and ethical context, the cultural shift underneath. Those readers are better served by reading than by buying. Our AI girlfriend vs real girlfriend explainer is the safe-for-work educational page on exactly this. It covers the parasocial research, the regulatory and ethical context, and the real ways an AI companion relationship differs from a human one, all without selling you anything. If you landed here to think rather than to subscribe, that's your page. Our methodology landing and AI companion scoring page cover how the scoring works for readers curious about the machinery behind it.

The overlap case: most readers sit somewhere between companionship-first and explicit-first, not purely at one end. Our advice there is simple. Weight companionship-first if you'll use the platform daily across weeks (the conversation engine and memory horizon matter more than peak content latitude), and weight explicit-first if you'll use it for single-session explicit interactions with no continuity expectation (content latitude matters more than memory). Pick the use that describes your typical week, not your peak week.

How to read this table. Reader profile is the typical user the row describes. Priority axis is the one thing that reader weights first across the five questions. Budget band is the yearly entry tier they're willing to commit to. Geo is the legal regime that constrains the routing. Use case is companionship-first, explicit-first, thinking-it-through, or mixed. Recommended pick is the answer for that profile.

If your profile isn't in the table word for word, the logic still holds. Pick the row closest to your priorities and read the linked Review for the per-dimension scoring. If two rows describe you equally well, the routing lands on a top-2 set, and the call between them comes down to which platform's corporate-entity disclosure you trust most.

When to skip this framework and just read the Reviews

The framework is built for the median reader and shows the trade-offs honestly where they exist. Three kinds of reader should skip it and go straight to the per-platform Review.

Readers who already know which platform they want. If you landed here because a friend recommended Candy.ai or you saw a Reddit thread about OurDream, the framework just adds friction. The per-platform Review carries the per-dimension scoring, the corporate-entity disclosure, the pricing detail, and the UK, US, and EU compliance posture, all at the depth a confirmation-mode reader actually needs. Direct routes: Candy.ai (composite 8.4), our OurDream review, the Lovescape overview, DarLink AI (composite), the GirlfriendGPT review, the Joi review, the Secrets.ai review, and the Pleasur AI review.

Readers comparing two specific platforms head-to-head. If your decision is genuinely between two named apps (Candy.ai versus Joi, Replika versus Candy.ai, Character.AI versus Candy.ai), the framework is too broad. The dedicated head-to-head pages run the comparison at a depth the framework can't reach. Direct routes: Candy.ai vs Joi, Replika vs Candy.ai, Character.AI vs Candy.ai, CrushOn.AI vs Candy.ai, Janitor.AI vs Candy.ai, and Nomi.AI vs Candy.ai.

Readers who want to think the topic through rather than buy. If you arrived here to reason about AI companions rather than subscribe to one, the framework is the wrong format. Our safe-for-work AI girlfriend vs real girlfriend explainer covers the parasocial research, the regulatory context, and the ethical environment without any commercial routing. Our methodology landing covers how the scoring works for readers curious about how we evaluate the category in the first place.

The framework exists for the reader in between: knows the category, hasn't picked a platform, has overlapping priorities that need teasing apart, wants the trade-offs explained openly. If that's you, the five questions above route you. If it's not, the direct routes above save you the friction.

How we curated these 8 platforms

Every pick the framework routes to ran through the same 12-step per-platform process we use across our AI companion scoring page. The per-pick detail lives on each individual Review: an 8-category weighted scorecard (Pricing & Value 18%, Conversation Quality 16%, Privacy & Compliance 14%, Customization 12%, Image Generation 12%, UX & Mobile 10%, Voice 10%, Video 8%), a 10-prompt explicit roleplay battery, a 5-prompt image generation suite, a fixed voice phrase, a pricing-page walk, a Terms of Service and policy review, and a sentiment cross-check against Reddit, Trustpilot, and reviewer-aggregator sources. The full spec, including how we flag claims we couldn't verify ourselves and the 12-step workflow, lives on our methodology page.

We spent $0 testing across these apps. We walked pricing pages and checkout flows up to (but never past) payment submission. Everything after the purchase (the billing descriptor, refund friction, auto-renewal triggers) we flag as not tested directly, drawn from aggregated user reports. We didn't personally subscribe to every paid tier, and our process explicitly forbids us from faking first-hand claims we can't back with dated evidence.

The filter for the eight picks is spelled out in our Character.AI alternatives roundup under "Why these 8 picks and not others". Every pick has to be (a) a real operating brand with a verifiable corporate entity, (b) permissive enough on adult content to go past a hard-ceiling moderation regime, (c) carrying an active CrakRevenue affiliate offer we're approved for, (d) clear of our 7-veto compliance checklist, and (e) above the 5.5/10 floor with at least one category won outright. We looked at about 17 platforms in the AI girlfriend and AI companion category. Eight made the short-list. The nine that didn't (Replika with ERP removed, CrushOn.AI's corporate transparency gap, Janitor.AI's bring-your-own-model overhead, Nomi.AI's premium-pricing mismatch, and the rest) are named in the Character.AI alternatives honest exclusions with the specific reasoning for each.

The framework on this page doesn't re-score the eight. It routes between them under the scoring we already ran. Affiliate payouts don't shape the routing. The five questions are tuned to surface the thing that drives the best fit for you, not the thing that drives the biggest commission for us.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI companion app is best for beginners?

Candy.ai is the lowest-friction default for beginners: the best image generation we tested, a persistent persona via a 20-plus attribute builder, and a bounded $3.99 a month yearly subscription that holds the promo for the full term. The 5-message lifetime free cap is short. If you want a longer free trial before paying, OurDream allows 50 messages a day plus 5 free chats with no signup.

Which AI girlfriend has the longest memory?

DarLink AI's Ultimate tier ships 30-plus days of Living Memory (we haven't tested this directly, it comes from aggregated user reports), at $24.95 a month yearly. OurDream is the cheaper memory-first pick at 2-plus weeks of continuity for $9.99 a month yearly Premium, plus four-character group chat. Candy.ai's documented horizon is 5-7 days before context drift reports surface. Nomi is excluded because its premium pricing doesn't clear our scoring.

Which AI companion is cheapest?

Candy.ai yearly at $3.99 a month effective ($47.88 a year) is the cheapest entry on the AI companion list, with the promo holding for the full subscription. Joi standard at $4.00 a month yearly ties for cheapest, but it's geo-blocked in the UK and ships a 115-character message cap. The cheapest free path is OurDream's 50-messages-a-day free tier.

Which AI girlfriend works in the United Kingdom?

Candy.ai is the cleanest pick for UK readers. EverAI Limited (Malta C107181) ships a named UK Representative under the Online Safety Act, full GDPR coverage, and a discreet Everai bank-statement descriptor. Joi blocks UK IPs entirely. OurDream, Lovescape, DarLink AI, GirlfriendGPT, Secrets.ai, and Pleasur AI all stay reachable at the time we tested.

Which AI companion is best for exiting Replika after the February 2023 ERP rollback?

OurDream and DarLink AI are the closest matches for ex-Replika readers because both anchor on persistent memory rather than image polish. OurDream ships 2-plus weeks of memory horizon for $9.99 a month yearly. DarLink AI Ultimate ships 30-plus days of Living Memory at $24.95 a month yearly. Candy.ai works as a third option for cost-conscious migrants at $3.99 a month yearly.

Should I use a quiz or just read the reviews?

This guide IS the structured quiz, written as a 5-question decision tree rather than a clickable widget. Got 60 seconds? The five questions route you to a defensible top-3 pick. Got 5 minutes? The individual Reviews carry per-dimension scoring, last-tested dates, the facts we couldn't verify directly, and corporate-entity disclosures that no quiz format surfaces in a routing answer.

Can I switch between AI companions easily?

There's no native cross-platform import path. None of the eight picks export persona definitions, character cards, or conversation histories in a format you can re-import elsewhere. The workaround is rebuilding from scratch: recreate your preferred persona using the destination platform's character builder. Expect 10-15 minutes per persona on Candy.ai's 20-plus attribute builder, and expect not to recover the full conversation context.

Bottom line. The framework sends most readers to Candy.ai by default ($3.99 a month yearly, 8.4/10 in our scoring, EverAI Malta compliance, and the best image generation we tested). The common override routes: OurDream for memory-first readers ($9.99 a month yearly Premium, a 2-plus week horizon per user reports we couldn't fully verify, four-character group chat, a 50-messages-a-day free tier), DarLink AI Ultimate for premium memory and scenario-first readers ($24.95 a month yearly, 30-plus day Living Memory under the same caveat, FameLink SA Switzerland), Lovescape for readers who want independently tested image and voice quality ($5.99 a month yearly, with the LustyLab benchmark behind it), and Joi for video-generation readers willing to live with the UK block and the 115-character message cap (Dream Clips video under $5 a month yearly). UK readers default to Candy.ai whatever their priority, because of the compliance posture. Readers who came to think rather than buy route out to our AI girlfriend vs real girlfriend explainer, a safe-for-work educational page rather than a commercial route.
